Delta's massive new fare sale

A massive new fare sale from the nation's third-largest airline, one that is making waves across North America. Delta Air Lines is selling seats for as low as $49 one-way.

To take advantage of these deals, book and buy by December 5. Then, complete your journey by December 12. There is one important proviso you need to know about up front: blackout dates. Travel on these discount airfares on November on 22, 25 and 26 - the heart of the Thanksgiving travel season - is out. Essentially, Delta is trying to boost traffic in relatively quiet periods, the time in-between Thanksgiving and Christmas rushes. That's why there are some significant discount airfares out there for the taking.

All the discount airfares we're about to quote are one-way, entail a seven-day advance purchase and a one-night stay. To get them you've got to make a round-trip purchase. Neither taxes nor fees are included in the prices we're about to quote.

Here's a sampling of the species of savings you can expect from Delta's dramatic new sale:

- Albuquerque (ABQ) to Birmingham, AL (BHM) $109
