XM Canada and Air Canada join forces
© Air CanadaSatellite radio broadcaster XM Canada will provide exclusive audio content to Air Canada travelers as of March 1 next year.
XM's broadcasts will be accessible via a new touch-screen entertainment system on the back of each seat, due to be installed in all of the Canadian carrier's planes.
Content in both English and French will replace the current enRouteFM broadcasts.
"We believe XM Canada's superior programming and unique Canadian content is the right fit for our passengers," said Sean Menke, Air Canada's Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.
The partnership will "provide our passengers with a wide variety of musical selections, including various genres in both English and French", he added.
Menke said that the airline prides itself in offering "choice and control", with "innovations" such as tailored ticket prices, flight passes for multiple trips and self-check-in facilities both online and at the airport.
With direct services to 157 destinations on five continents, Air Canada transports 31 million passengers each year.
