American Airlines

American heralds New Year with new in-flight snacks

From the beginning of next year, American Airlines will roll out a new selection of in-flight drinks, snacks, and light meals.

Available for purchase on more than 1,400 domestic flights lasting two or more hours, snack choices include Lay's Stax Potato Chips, Mega Bite Snickerdoodle Cookies, Milk Chocolate M&Ms or the unique GNS Cinn-a-berry Breakfast Blend.

Light bites such as these will cost $3 each, mineral water will be on sale for $2, and all food can be purchased with cash, a credit card, or a debit card.

On more than 600 domestic American Airlines flights that last longer than three hours, the carrier will serve fresh meals, which differ depending on destination, but can include a club croissant or breakfast bagel sandwich, an Italian wrap, or an Asian chicken salad.

Light meals will be on sale, alongside snacks, for $5 each.

American Airlines sought feedback from both customers and flights attendants when designing the new menu, after a series of test runs through September, and ascertained that choice and value were top priorities for its passengers.

The carrier "regularly engages [its] customers to determine their food and beverage preferences and what forms of payment they prefer to use", said American's Vice-President of On-board Services, Lauri Curtis, confident in the new program's "value choice".

Light meals will replace the snack boxes and muffins currently sold on American Airlines flights of longer than three hours.
