Southwest issues advice for festive fliers
As we enter the peak winter travel period, Southwest Airlines has issued advice to travelers taking to the skies this Christmas.
Arriving at the ticket desk 60 or more minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time is preferable, the airline suggests, as is checking in online - allowing you to print your own boarding pass and beat the holiday queues.
All important at Christmas time is also the classic rule that packed gifts must not be wrapped. Security staff might have reason to search your luggage and will not be averse to opening your presents, however immaculate the wrapping.
Take heed of the Transportation Security Administration's '3-1-1 for Carry-Ons' rule, since airport security will remain stringent during the holidays.
Any liquids, gels or pastes must be stored in a container no larger than three ounces, placed in one quart-sized, clear zip-top bag, with no more than one per person.
Isolate all gels and toiletries you need for the flight before you pack your bags, allow plenty of time at the scanners, or save time by placing all liquids in your checked luggage.
Adverse weather conditions have already grounded festive flights and storms are likely to strike again. Finally, therefore, United Airlines reminds travelers to check forecasts and reports before departing for the airport. If in doubt, contact your carrier.
