Northwest brings Airbus A330s to Hawaii
After 34 years of service, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 serving Northwest Airlines' route between Minneapolis and Honolulu has retired, making way for a brand new Airbus A330.
The luxuries of the modern Airbus will now be available to passengers flying on the daily link between Minneapolis-Saint Paul International and Honolulu International.
"Our customers will enjoy a level of seat comfort and in-flight entertainment normally found only on international flights, providing a travel experience to Hawaii unmatched by any other U.S. airline," said Tom Bach, Vice-President of Network Planning at Northwest.
The A330 will "provide travelers between the Twin Cities and Honolulu with a welcome 'Aloha' on the longest domestic route we fly", he added.
The DC-10 which made its last flight for Northwest yesterday morning (Monday, January 8) has already been sold, along with the only other one remaining in the airline's fleet, as part of a modernization drive.
On-board the new Airbus planes, Business-Class passengers can enjoy lie-flat beds, and a personal audio/video in-flight entertainment system, with a choice of 40 movies, 56 audio channels, six games, four short-subject videos, and more.
