American Airlines discounts fares to Canada

American Airlines and its regional operator American Eagle have discounted fares on connections between the US and Canada.

Round-trips to and from six major Canadian cities start at $179 if booked by March 8 - for travel through April 30 - before government taxes are taken into account.

Flights to Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary, and Ottawa are discounted in the promotion, linking destinations such as New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and Boston.

Travel, which must be off-peak to qualify for the discounts, is in American's Economy Class.

The world's largest carrier is also offering passengers the chance to enter into its latest sweepstakes, with prize packages worth $2,500, $1,500, and $1,000 for three lucky winners.

All fliers need do its book a weekend package online, or register free.

"With more than 100 departure cities, our weekend packages are the perfect answer for that last-minute getaway," said Rob Friedman of American Airlines. "And we believe the chance to win our sweepstakes will encourage customers to consider participation in this offer."
