Delta welcomed 1.5m fliers over past weekend

Delta Air Lines is expecting to have accommodated 1.5 million passengers at its Atlanta hub by the end of today (Monday, April 2) over this peak Spring Break weekend.

The Georgia-based carrier sold 90 percent of the seats on its flights this weekend and has remodeled the lobby at the world's largest airport to make space for the vacationers. Extra staff have also been brought in and new kiosks opened.

Additional traffic at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International has been attributed to Spring Break travel and crowds traveling to and from the NCAA Men's Final Four Tournament.

"It's rare to have so many people departing and arriving into the same city at once, but our redesigned Atlanta lobby is configured to accommodate additional customer traffic making it easier than ever for customers to travel through Delta's flagship hub this spring," said Delta's Greg Kennedy.

Delta has recently introduced a number of services at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International to facilitate swift connections, such as self-drop baggage counters, new check-in areas, and recharging stations for laptop users.

According to statistics from the Federal Aviation Administration, Delta's hub has been the busiest airport in the US and the world for the past two years.
