Kaiser Chiefs trial Silverjet Cargo service
Low-cost luxury airline Silverjet has begun offering cargo services to its transatlantic passengers, and this week carried leading British band the Kaiser Chiefs to a gig in New York with 800kg of equipment.
The world's first carbon neutral carrier provides each passenger with a large lie-flat bed, access to a broad selection of movies, TV, and radio, flexible meals and refreshments, in a Boeing 767 cabin complete with private wardrobes and five bathrooms.
Silverjet now also offers car and helicopter chauffer services for fliers traveling to and from its private air terminals at London Luton and New York Newark, and can carry up to 15 tonnes of passenger cargo when heading east, and 10 tonnes when flying west.
The Leeds-based band, the Kaiser Chiefs of I Predict a Riot fame, demonstrated the efficacy of the new service as they touched down in Newark, complete with their equipment, in time to appear on the Conan O'Brien show that night.
"Our dedicated team worked with the Kaiser Chiefs’ tour manager to ensure the seamless transportation of their 29 pieces of valuable band equipment," explained Michael Meagher, Managing Director of Silverjet Cargo.
The British airline launched in January, offering a new brand of low-fare transatlantic luxury, competing with rival Business-Class carriers MAXjet Airways and Eos Airlines.
