SkyWest begins Midwest Connect services from Milwaukee

SkyWest Airlines has started offering Midwest Connect flights on behalf of Midwest Airlines, as part of a regional partnership announced earlier this year.

The collaboration was launched with a flight between Midwest's hometown of Milwaukee, and Columbus, Ohio, in a 50-seat Canadair aircraft. SkyWest will also serve select flights between General Mitchell International and both Minneapolis/St Paul and Philadelphia.

Up to 25 of the regional jets will be operated by SkyWest on behalf of the Wisconsin-based airline, according to the agreement ratified at the beginning of this year.

"The Midwest and SkyWest teams have been working diligently for months in eager anticipation of this day," announced Midwest's Scott Dickson yesterday (Sunday, April 1).

"These jets play a key role in helping us expand our reach into new markets, upgrade certain markets to larger aircraft and to ultimately add more flights in key markets."

Forming part of a strategic expansion plan, including the addition of 12 new routes to six new destinations, the partnership will herald a 21 percent increase in Midwest's network capacity this year.
