Spirit’s going to Guatemala, with intro fare of eight cents
If you’ve got eight cents, discount airline Spirit has a very, very good deal: passage to Guatemala City (GUA).
The discount airline launches daily nonstop Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Guatemala City service on May 10, making the Central American capital the carrier’s 17th Latin American and Caribbean destination.
To land this limited eight-cent discount airfare, you’ll have to book and buy exceedingly fast – by 11:59pm (Eastern Time) tonight (Thursday, April 5). The deal is good for FLL – GUA flights from May 10 through May 15; for Guatemala City to Fort Lauderdale flights May 11 through May 15.
This dramatically deep discount airfare is predicated on a round-trip purchase, and neither taxes nor fees are included.
Spirit Airlines, which now styles itself as an Ultra Low Cost Carrier, or ULCC, will become the third airline offering nonstop service from south Florida to the Guatemalan capital. Both American Airlines and TACA offer flights from Miami International (MIA).

This fare is actually $88 according to the Spirit Web site. Still a great fare, but not .08.

Dear Nancy,
This story referred to a lightning-fast sale. When we posted the story on Thursday (April 5), travelers had just hours - until midnight - to snap up an eight cent fare (excluding taxes). The Spirit Web site currently features fares of $88, which are still, as you say, great.
