Zoom to London from $260

Transatlantic low-coster Zoom Airlines will begin flying between New York JFK and London Gatwick from June 21, with one-way fares from $260.

Premium Economy services, designated seating and "plenty of frills", such as a full meal service, are designed to belie the no-frills fare.

Zoom is determined to provide an "excellent and affordable" alternative to British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, emerge as a transatlantic carrier of choice, and establish a low-fare marker well before any Open Skies agreement comes into effect.

"You cannot put a sheaf of paper between the prices charged by BA, Virgin and the American carriers on the New York route and it is high time that passengers had a better deal," said airline co-owner John Boyle.

"We are offering savings of up to 70 percent on these flights."

Additional Zoom flights are also set to connect Canada and Bermuda with London Gatwick in the near future.
