ExpressJet launches Birmingham flights under own banner
Alabama fliers can now book nonstop service to a couple of key southern airports from Birmingham (BHM). ExpressJet has launched flights to New Orleans (MSY) and Raleigh/Durham (RDU) from the increasingly high-tech, medical services city.
Birmingham has been bereft of nonstop service to New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina prompted discount airline Southwest to suspend the route. Now, fliers won’t have to connect over Atlanta (ATL) or Houston (HOU or IAH) to get to the Big Easy. It is, once again, about an hour’s ride away.
Now that ExpressJet flies BHM – RDU nonstop, there’s a fast-track link between Birmingham’s health car industry and Raleigh/Durham’s high-tech base, which is dominated by Research Triangle companies. There is no need to connect via Atlanta.
ExpressJet flies EMB-145s on each route. The 50-passenger twinjets are fitted with 1x2 seating, offer 100 channels of free XM® Satellite Radio, and full meal service options on longer flights.
