American Airlines adds Caribbean link
New Yorkers have a new chance to relax in the Caribbean sun, after American Airlines announced a new service to St Lucia.
Flights will begin on November 15, so if a sun-drenched Thanksgiving takes your fancy this year, American Airlines will offer three flights a week to the picturesque island.
Peter J Dolara of American Airlines said that the flights were the only nonstop service between New York and St Lucia currently on offer.
"For nearly four decades, American Airlines has been a leader in offering travelers a wide variety of destinations in the Caribbean, and we are very excited to add New York-St Lucia nonstop service to our schedule."
The flights will use Boeing 757 aircraft and will depart New York at 10:45am on Thursday, Saturdays, and Mondays, (Sunday flights will replace the Saturday service after December 13 2007).
Sir John George Melvin Compton, Prime Minister of St Lucia, was sure that the island would provide a great getaway from the Big Apple:
"We know visitors will love our magnificent rain forests, beautiful mountains, and attractive beaches as much as we do.
"And of course, we are equally confident travelers will enjoy the excellent facilities and wonderful shopping that St Lucia has to offer."
The new service is the second recent Caribbean link for the airline, which will begin a nonstop service from John F Kennedy International Airport to St Kitts and Nevis, also in November.
