Sun Country's sojourns - added flights, new routes
Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines is a quintessential leisure carrier. All you have to do is look at the discount airline's route structure to see that. Now, with two new aircraft, Sun Country is adding flight frequencies to four existing destinations, and increasing the number of cities it serves.
By the end of August, the discount airline will add extra flights from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport's (MSP) convenient Humphrey Terminal to Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle/Tacoma (SEA), and Washington, DC Dulles (IAD).
By December, look for Sun Country to add Tucson (TUS) and West Palm Beach (PBI) to its leisure destinations, just in time for the annual snowbird pilgrimage from the upper Midwest to warmer climes.
An interesting thing about the discount airline's MSP-centric system is that aircraft are scheduled return to Sun Country's Minneapolis/St. Paul hub every night. That means they don't RON (an industry acronym for "remain overnight") at some far off-line station. The intent is to put airplanes in a position where they can adhere to schedule, and not leave passengers in the lurch.
The philosophy works. Both Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler rank Sun Country among their top ten domestic carriers.
