Allegiant to use Mesa as a hub
Allegiant Air has announced plans to use Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, AZ, as a hub. The carrier plans to serve 13 cities from the Arizona airport, which will be renamed Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on October 15.
Allegiant spokeswoman Tyri Squyres told the East Valley Tribune that services would begin towards the end of October, with one-way fares ranging from $79 to $119.
Though Vision Airlines has flown out of Williams Gateway for more than a year, other carriers have not been so fortunate; SkyValue and Western both cancelled operations due to a lack of sufficient funding.
However, Michael Boyd, Airline Consultant, told the newspaper that Allegiant wouldn't suffer a similar fate.
"Comparing Allegiant to Western or SkyValue is like comparing Fort Knox to a couple of empty piggy banks," he commented. "This is not a half-baked charter. It's one of the most professionally run entities in the travel business."
Allegiant flies to 53 destinations from hubs in Las Vegas, Orlando, and Tampa-St Petersburg.
