Paperless boarding with Air Canada

Passengers who check-in using their cell phone or PDA will be able to use paperless boarding passes thanks to Air Canada.

Fliers using the national carrier's mobile check-in service at mobile.aircanada.com will be sent an SMS text message which they can show to airport security staff, rather than using a traditional paper boarding pass.

The service will initially be available for all domestic Air Canada flights, as well as departures to the airline's many international destinations.

Customers can use the new system by logging on to mobile.aircanada.com and entering their name, departure city and one of the following: Aeroplan number, credit card number or booking reference, an Air Canada press release explained.

Lise Fournel, the airline's Senior Vice-President of E-Commerce and Chief Information Officer, commented: "Introduction of the mobile boarding pass is a key element in Air Canada's initiatives to use the most recent and secure mobile and 2-D barcode technologies to simplify our customers' travel experience."

She added: "In addition to the simplification of travel and business processes made possible by the replacement of paper with electronic documents, we're particularly excited about the expanded application of 2-D barcode technology that gives our employees better tools to serve our customers more efficiently."
