Improvements for San Diego International
Officials from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority are reviewing plans for a $650 million investment into the Lindbergh Field facility.
The authority has suggested that improvements at San Diego International Airport are needed to help ease congestion and improve passenger experience.
Proposals include ten new airline gates and extra space for passengers to board flights, reports the North County Times.
Building work on this initial plan is expected to start in 2012, though the authority suggests a new runway will be needed by 2015.
Keith Wilschetz, Director of Airport Planning at the authority, told the newspaper: "The primary feature is, we need to add ten new gates at Lindbergh, and we plan to do it at terminal two."
San Diego International Airport is the busiest single-runway commercial airport in the U.S., with 18 airlines operating flights to and from the destination.
