Ontario Airport monorail receives support
The planned light rail service from Pasadena to Ontario International Airport has received backing from local figures.
Ontario Mayor Paul Leon has said that that extending the Metro Gold Line from Pasadena to Montclair, and then on to the airport would benefit the region.
He is to head up the San Bernadino county transportation agency advisory committee into the proposals and believes that the Gold Line should not stop at Montclair but continue to destinations that will attract more travelers and commuters.
"You need to have a vision that people will grab a hold of," Leon told The Press Enterprise.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigoza has also backed the $1.16 billion project.
It is hoped that the Gold Line would help to relieve air traffic congestion at LAX and encourage more passengers to take flights from Ontario.
Work on the light rail service is expected to begin in 2010, with the route fully operational by 2014.
