Stansted – American’s new alternative airport in London
© American AirlinesAmerican Airlines is the latest carrier to opt for the Stansted (STN) alternative, another way to connect U.S. travelers to all London has to offer.
The country’s largest airline has launched daily nonstop service from New York Kennedy (JFK) to the less-congested alternative.
AA (the carrier’s code) is running a Boeing 767-300 widebody on the route. It’s fitted with two classes of service: Business and Coach. In configuring the airplane for two classes of carriage, American lays claim to being the only airline on the New York to Stansted route to offer both business and economy service.
Been to better-known Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW), but haven’t heard of Stansted? Lots of London leisure flyers — at least those headed there from the United States — haven’t. It’s just 46 minutes from Central London’s Liverpool Street, and you can make the trip via the Stansted Express. The train is popular with folks headed for the City of London or Canary Wharf.
As for amenities at STN, American Airlines is building a Business-Class lounge in Satellite Two. Set to debut in spring 2008, the enclave will be able to seat 48 flyers. There will be a self-service bar, wired and wireless Internet access, restrooms, and a pair of shower rooms. The latter are terrific after a transatlantic journey.
