Aeromexico heads for China

Mexican airline Aeromexico is to launch flights to China. Passengers will be able to fly from Mexico City to Shanghai via a connection at Tijuana when the service commences in March.

A statement from the airline explained that this will be the second service to connect Mexico with Asia, after flights to Tokyo were introduced earlier this year.

Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Relations, visited the Mexican Embassy in China last week to discuss the new link between the two countries. As part of her four-day visit, she said the air service will be the first direct link between Mexico and China, and will serve to increase cooperation between the two nations.

Several U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, have secured routes to China ahead of the Olympic Games in August.
