Concourse A closed at Miami International
Concourse A at Miami International Airport has been closed as part of the North Terminal Development (NTD) program, which will add 3.2 million-square-feet to the airport.
Carriers, including American Airlines, have moved to other areas of the airport to help speed up completion of the $2.7 billion improvement program which will include new concessions, automated people movers and enhanced baggage services.
Concourse A has now been cleared to make way for construction work, reports the South Florida Business Journal.
Gilberto Neves, Chief Executive of Odebrecht Construction, told the newspaper that closing operations at Concourse A has helped to increase the number of people working on the "fast-paced project".
He commented: "We have more than 100 contractors mobilized, and we're ramping up in the field."
The NTD plan is part of proposals made ten years ago to improve the airport's facilities. A similar enhancement program was recently completed at the South Terminal.
