Air Travelers Association backs Obama

The Air Travelers Association has voiced its support for Presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

David Stempler, President of the organization, said that Obama offers "the best hope for airline passengers" and will help to solve problems including delays and congestion.

The Democratic Senator would work towards speeding up the introduction of the planned GPS "NextGen" air traffic control system which would enhance safety and cut delays, he explained.

Stempler commented: "We believe that Barack Obama is the best candidate for President, and as a forward-thinking President, will get NextGen passed in Congress, and then quickly implemented and deployed throughout the United States."

He added: "We believe that Barack Obama will enable us to have safety-based, GPS systems for airliners, sooner than any other candidate for President."

The Federal Aviation Administration first announced details of the NextGen communications systems early last year, suggesting that without its implementation the U.S. economy would miss out on $22 billion annually by 2022 due to congestion and airline delays.
