AirTran extends Orlando base

AirTran Airways has announced plans to expand its operations in Orlando with the introduction of a new control center at Orlando International Airport.

The airline has said that it will continue to use the Florida city as its base, already adding several new flights to the airport over the past year. Some 449 AirTran flights leave Orlando International Airport each week on nonstop routes to 33 destinations.

Robert L Fornaro, Chief Executive Officer of AirTran Airways, said: "Orlando will remain our nerve center for our fast-growing network as well as our headquarters city.

"We are proud to call Orlando home. Orlando is a great city with a business-friendly climate, growing business and leisure passenger base and livability."

Meanwhile, the airline has launched a new Net Escapes sale to mark the new year, with fares starting from $44 one-way excluding taxes and charges.
