New nonstop competition between Miami and Guayaquil

There's new nonstop competition on the Miami (MIA) to Guayaquil. Ecuador (GYE) route. It's provided by an Aerogal 737, which the airline touts as offering “first class service to all passengers”.

American Airlines also flies MIA-GYE, from its massive Latin American gateway at the south Florida airport.

To counter AA's dominant position out of Miami, Aerogal is offering champagne to welcome passengers on board, warm meals, digestives, and flat panel TV.

Aerogal's new service is a daily deal, with the southbound flight departing Miami International at 5pm, and arriving Guayaquil at 10am. The northbound flight pushes back from the gate at Jose Juaquin de Olmedo Airport at 2:30pm and arrives MIA at 9:30pm.

Aerogal appears to be counting on connecting a significant swath of North American flyers on to the Galapagos Islands, a protected enclave harboring some of the rarest species on the planet.
