Savings and Deals

New year, new discount airfares - AirTran's deals start at $44

$44 will buy - exclusive of taxes and fees - one-way passage from Atlanta (ATL) to Savannah/Hilton Head (SAV) on discount airline AirTran Airways.

That $44 rate is the lowest price of a new slate of discount airfares available for purchase by January 17. Book and buy by then, and travel through May 21 (through February 27 if the ticket is for Florida flights).

All the discount airfares quoted below are one-way, and they do not require a round-trip purchase. What they do entail is a ten-day advance purchase. AirTran's lowest discount airfares are for travel on off-peak days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Those are the ones quoted here.

Here's a sampling of what AirTran is serving up:

- Akron/Canton (CAK) to Gulfport/Biloxi (GPT) $94

- Atlanta (ATL) to Chicago Midway (MDW) $84

- Baltimore/Washington (BWI) to Boston (BOS) $54

- Boston (BOS) to Orlando (MCO) $89
