FAA to investigate 'sleeping' go! pilots

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is to investigate whether pilots onboard a recent go! flight fell asleep in the cockpit.

Flight 1002 from Honolulu to Hilo overshot its intended destination by 15 miles last Wednesday (February 13). Air traffic controllers reportedly spent 25 minutes trying to contact the pilot and co-pilot, before the plane eventually turned back and landed safely.

Ian Gregor from the FAA, confirmed: "We're investigating whether the pilot and co-pilot of go! airlines inter-island flight fell asleep while the plane was in the air between Honolulu and Hilo."

Mesa Airlines, parent company of go!, has said that it is cooperating fully with the FAA in its investigation but would not comment further.
