JetBlue further differentiates product – more legroom for sale

Here’s a move that should help discount airline JetBlue further differentiate its product, and pick up some extra revenue in the process.

From April 1, the low-fare, high-frills airline will be offering seats with 38 inches of pitch in rows two through five of its A320s, as well as emergency exit rows ten and eleven. The carrier will offer the seats for sale, “for a small additional fee”. The rest of the A320s’ cabin will continue to sport 34 inches of pitch between seats.

There will be extra room too in the exit rows of JetBlue’s growing fleet of Embraer 190s. Look for it on the exit row. It too will cost you extra.

How much does JetBlue mean by “small additional fee”? As little as $10 on short-haul routes says the discount airline.

Later this year, you’ll have the ability to purchase what the airline calls "Even More Legroom" seats when you check-in online, or at airport service counters or kiosks.

Ask a flyer what they most want — aside from a safe, punctual flight — and they’ll tell you it's more room. JetBlue appears to be addressing the issue at a price that won’t break the bank.
