Continental receives EPA award

Continental Airlines has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its use of an environmentally friendly aircraft material.

The carrier received an award from the EPA's Design for the Environment (DfE) Program in praise of efforts to reduce toxins. Continental is the first commercial carrier to use PreKote as a pretreatment for all its aircraft.

Use of the product is part of Continental's company-wide environmental-awareness program which has already lead to a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Mark Moran, Executive Vice-President of Operations at Continental, said: "Continental is pleased to be acknowledged by the EPA for our part in using a more environmentally friendly product.

"Continental is always looking for 'green' alternatives, which support not only our Commitment to the Environment, but also ensure our employees have a great place to work."
