Speech recognition check-in from Continental

Continental Airlines has announced a new self-service option for passengers wishing to check-in using telephone systems.

The carrier has teamed up with speech-recognition firm Voxify to develop the new "Voice Check-In" system which will see customers register for flights over automated phone calls.

Customers who request the service will receive an automated call and will be able to request boarding passes by e-mail, fax or airport kiosk pick-up.

Passengers will also be able to request upgrades, listen to airport updates and receive baggage policy information.

Jared Miller, Director of Customer Self-Service at the airline, said: "Continental continues to be an industry innovator, using self-service technologies to improve the customer experience.

"Voxify's expertise and commitment to delivering the highest quality speech self-service solutions will allow even more customers to enjoy the benefits of self check-in."

The service is thought to be the first interactive outbound flight check-in system to use voice-recognition.
