ExpressJet cuts, chapter and verse
Fuel prices and load factors are forcing ExpressJet to jettison, at least for a while, a number of nonstop routes. The all-regional jet airline is shedding 30 percent of its seats as of August 23. There’s a chance some routes might re-emerge on November 15 however.
Flyers will have to adjust because there was no nonstop competition on virtually all of these routes. That has been a key component of ExpressJet’s business plan: fly routes the other airlines do not. ExpressJet spokeswoman Kristy Nicholas tells Cheapflights that even though nonstops are going away, flyers will still be able to make one-stop connections on the carrier to a number of cities in its route network.
Here’s a rundown of the routes ExpressJet is canceling on August 23, at the end of the busy summer season:
- Albuquerque (ABQ) to Oklahoma City (OKC)
- Albuquerque to Tulsa (TUL)
- Austin (AUS) to Tucson (TUS)
- Bakersfield (BFL) to Sacramento (SMF)
- Jacksonville (JAX) to Austin
- Jacksonville to Kansas City (MCI)
- Omaha (OMA) to Tucson
- Ontario (ONT) to Austin
- Ontario to Oklahoma City
- Ontario to Omaha
- Ontario to Tulsa
- Reno (RNO) to Spokane (GEG)
- Reno to Tucson
- San Diego (SAN) to Bakersfield
- San Diego to Oklahoma City
- San Diego to Omaha
- San Antonio (SAT) to Tulsa
- Sacramento to Oklahoma City
- Sacramento to San Antonio
- Sacramento to Tulsa

I hope that you will reconsider cancelling the Omaha - San Diego nonstop flight. It is so perfect, and I was so happy to finally have that flight in place. I sure don't like the thought of it being discontinued. Save it, please!
