Mexicana delays return to Meadows Field
Mexicana Airlines has suspended service to Meadow Fields Airport, Bakersfield.
The carrier had originally intended to resume flights to the airport in June after a 30-day evaluation. However, airline officials have said the rising cost of fuel and current economic conditions will lead to a further suspension of the service.
Jack Gotcher, Director of Kern County Airports told a meeting of the Board of Supervisors about Mexicana's decision.
He said: "They have been very apologetic. It's a shock to us but it's not nearly as bad as it was after 9/11 when we lost multiple flights."
Mexicana started service at Bakersfield just over a year ago with the flights to Guadalajara the only international service at the airport.
