Southwest Airlines

More DEN – Southwest puts on full-court press

The Denver Nuggets may not be in the NBA playoffs just now, but discount airline Southwest is treating the Mile High City like championship territory. The carrier is laying on nonstop service from Denver to a pair of new cities on September 2: San Francisco (SFO) and Omaha (OMA), three daily nonstops on each route. To get you to pay attention, the discount airline is offering an introductory discount airfare of $59 to OMA, and $79 to SFO.

These are one-way rates, but you don’t need to make a round-trip buy to get them. There’s a buy-by date on these discount airfares - June 4. Seats are limited, and neither taxes nor fees are included in the quotes.

Southwest’s move puts continuing pressure on Denver’s two incumbent carriers, United and Frontier. The two airlines also ply the DEN–Omaha and DEN–San Francisco routes.

Currently, WN (Southwest’s airline code) operates 79 daily nonstops from Denver. By September 2, a number of new nonstop routes will be up and running. Then, Southwest says it will field 95 daily round-trips to a total of 30 cities from Denver. The Colorado capital is already WN’s fastest-growing city.
