Rain causes delays at New York airports

Passengers faced delays of more than two hours at airports in New York yesterday (Monday, May 12).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed that strong winds in the New York area meant flights to LaGuardia, Newark and JFK experienced delays.

Storms in the mid-Atlantic area saw fires in New Jersey, power cuts in several states, and a shipwreck in Delaware.

Air passengers traveling through Newark were faced with the longest delays, with FAA figures stating an average wait of 2 hours and 57 minutes.

Delays at JFK averaged 54 minutes and at LaGuardia travelers faced delays of 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Following the storms on Sunday and Monday, passengers are advised to check the status of flights with their airline before traveling.
