Air Canada shelves Sacramento-Vancouver

It looks like Air Canada's nonstop Sacramento (SMF) to Vancouver (YVR) service will be a short-lived thing. The Canadian flag carrier announced the flights in March 2007; it's cutting them altogether on October 25.

Unless somebody decides to jump in, the move means there will be no more nonstop service from the California capital to Vancouver.

How to cope: There's a wealth of nonstop service to Vancouver from San Francisco (SFO). United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Air Canada all ply the route. The best bet is to fly United Express from Sacramento to SFO, and then connect there for the trip up the West Coast to Vancouver.

Air Canada's exit of the SMF-YVR market is part of a seven percent cutback overall, this impelled by the price of jet fuel.
