American Airlines to ax 3 daily Sea-Tac flights
American Airlines has said that it is eliminating three daily flights from Seattle Tacoma International Airport in its effort to prune unprofitable flights from its schedule.
The airline will cut a daily nonstop flight from Sea-Tac to Austin, one of eight daily round-trip flights to Dallas, as well as a single flight to St. Louis.
The flight to Austin will be axed as of September 3. Meanwhile, the other two flights will disappear from the schedule on November 2.
American is also poised to cut around 13 percent of its staff at Seattle Tacoma International from September 5, including eight agents, 12 ramp workers and two managers.
Tim Smith, spokesperson for American, told the Seattle Post Intelligencer that the cuts won't necessarily be accomplished by layoffs, because the company is offering several early-exit packages to senior employees.
The airline is cutting back around 6,500 jobs nationwide and grounding 75 planes.
