Cathay Pacific Airways hikes fares
Cathay Pacific Airways has announced that it is raising ticket fares by 3 to 15 percent effective immediately.
The fare hikes apply to First and Business-Class passengers travelling on all routes to and from Hong Kong.
Tony Tyler, Chief Executive of Cathay Pacific, said in a statement: "We regret having to charge passengers more, but the increase in our fuel bill is too great for us to absorb.
"We have to ask our passengers to pay more for their flights, either through increased surcharges or by increasing fares."
The Hong Kong carrier is also returning to its winter flight schedule on routes to Toronto and Vancouver, while increasing flights to Dubai and Bahrain.
From September 16, there will be 17 flights each week between Toronto and Hong Kong, compared to the current 21.
Meanwhile, the Toronto service will revert to a daily nonstop flight to Hong Kong, with three weekly flights via Anchorage being stopped.
