Delta Air Lines to end service to Yakima

Delta Air Lines is to discontinue SkyWest Airlines flights between Yakima and Salt Lake City as of August 31, according to reports.

The airline cited rising fuel prices as the reason behind reducing select flights.

Delta has operated two daily round-trip flights between Yakima and Salt Lake City through SkyWest since June 2007.

However, the airline's operations in Yakima have been uncertain from the start. Since beginning service, Delta has pulled the afternoon flight twice, citing a lack of passenger demand and skyrocketing fuel costs.

SkyWest currently employs 14 people at Yakima Air Terminal. In a statement, the airline said employees will be offered opportunities to transfer to other positions.
