ExpressJet's branded shutdown - routes

ExpressJet© ExpressJet
Recently, Cheapflights reported that ExpressJet will shut down its branded flight operations on September 2, while continuing to fly under Continental Express colors. Impelled by the price of petroleum, XJet is pulling out of some 34 city pairs. In virtually all instances, that will leave those specific city pairs without nonstop air service. Flyers will have to connect to make what were once nonstop journeys. That, indeed, was ExpressJet's branded business plan: to offer nonstop flights between cities where flyers had formerly had to make connections.

Here are the markets XJet will be leaving by September 2:

- Austin (AUS) to Albuquerque (ABQ)

- Austin (AUS) to New Orleans (MSY)

- Jacksonville (JAX) to New Orleans (MSY)

- Long Beach (LGB) to Fresno (FAT)

- Long Beach (LGB) to Monterey, CA (MRY)

- Long Beach (LGB) to Reno (RNO)

- Kansas City (MCI) to Tucson (TUS)

- New Orleans (MSY) to Kansas City (MCI)

- New Orleans (MSY) to Raleigh/Durham (RDU)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Albuquerque (ABQ)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Boise (BOI)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Colorado Springs (COS)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to El Paso (ELP)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Fresno (FAT)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Spokane (GEG)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Monterey, CA (MRY)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Reno (RNO)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to San Antonio (SAT)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Sacramento (SMF)

- Ontario, CA (ONT) to Tucson (TUS)

- San Diego (SAN) to Boise (BOI)

- San Diego (SAN) to Colorado Springs (COS)

- San Diego (SAN) to Fresno (FAT)

- San Diego (SAN) to Spokane (GEG)

- San Diego (SAN) to Monterey, CA (MRY)

- San Antonio (SAT) to Albuquerque (ABQ)

- San Antonio (SAT) to New Orleans (MSY)

- San Antonio (SAT) to Tucson (TUS)

- Santa Barbara (SBA) to San Diego (SAN)

- Santa Barbara (SBA) to Sacramento (SMF)

- Sacramento (SMF) to Albuquerque (ABQ)

- Sacramento (SMF) to Colorado Springs (COS)

- Sacramento (SMF) to Monterey, CA (MRY)

- Sacramento (SMF) to Tucson (TUS)

Part of what impelled ExpressJet to shutter its branded flying was the type of aircraft it operates: Embraer regional jets that carry fifty passengers and fewer. In today's energy-dominated skyscape, it is simply more difficult to make a go of it flying these smaller craft.

Feedback for ExpressJet:

We flew your airline out of Omaha, NE, to Tucson in May and had a great experience. We were very disappointed to learn you were pulling out of the Omaha market. Great on-time flight, attendants, and refreshments.

Feedback for ExpressJet:

I am very saddened by the news of your cancelled flights from Spokane, Wa to Ontario, Ca. Your service was excellent! Your people were some of the nicest I have ever had the pleasure of being around. Please let us know if you ever start them up again. Thank you.
