Night flights to return to Montreal-Trudeau Airport
© Montreal-Trudeau AirportAeroports de Montreal has announced plans to change its night-flights policy at Montreal-Trudeau Airport.
In 2006 the airport authority changed the path for night flights to avoid the neighborhoods of St Laurent and Lac St Louis. However, the change meant that pilots had to learn a new landing procedure which involved a sharp left turn and proved problematic for some during take off.
Normand Boivin, Chair of the airport's Soundscape Advisory Committee, told The Gazette: "Air Canada pilots are used to applying the procedure.
"But some pilots who don't fly into Montreal regularly found the turning procedure difficult. So we need to work on certain technical and human factors in order to meet our criteria and put the flight plan back in place."
The airport will now look at alternate ways to cut noise pollution for departures between midnight and 7am and arrivals between 1am and 7am.
