United's Denver route cuts, and how to cope
© Denver InternationalUnited Airlines and United Express are doing away with, or have already axed, a number of nonstop routes from UA's Rocky Mountain hub at Denver International Airport (DEN). Here is a look at what's going away (at least for a while) and how to cope with the changes.
Gone, or on the way out:
- Denver (DEN) to Anchorage (ANC) September 2
- Denver to Dayton (DAY) September 2
- Denver to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) September 2
- Denver to London Heathrow (LHR) October 25
- Denver to Raleigh/Durham (RDU) September 2
- Denver to Rockford, IL (RFD) already gone
How to cope: The best bet to get to Anchorage is to fly United up to Chicago O'Hare (ORD). From there you can connect to a nonstop United flight to Alaska's largest city.
To get to Dayton, you can also connect via United over Chicago. Southwest Airlines offers direct service between DEN and Fort Lauderdale. Southwest also offers one-stop, no-change-of-plane service from Denver to Raleigh/Durham. British Airways too flies nonstop from Denver to London Heathrow (LHR). As for Rockford, Southern Skyways connects RFD nonstop with Denver.
In the coming days, Cheapflights Flight News will be reporting on United cuts at Washington, D.C. Dulles (IAD), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO). Most important, of course, we'll tell you how to cope with them.
