WestJet cancels flights to Las Vegas

The recently announced WestJet service from Abbotsford, British Columbia, to Las Vegas has been cancelled before any planes have taken off, due to a lack of response from local flyers.

Richard Bartrem, Vice-President of Culture and Communications of the airline, told the Abbotsford Times: "Abbotsford has been great for us, the flights from Abbotsford to Calgary and from Abbotsford to Toronto are popular, but the bookings for Las Vegas haven't materialized at all.

"It's disappointing for us and we know it's frustrating for those who are wanting to fly from Abbotsford."

In May, Stuart Berry, WestJet Vice-President of Commercial and Operational Finance, announced that two daily nonstop flights would take off for Las Vegas, starting on September 8.

However, the airline will continue to offer $124 one-way fares from Vancouver to Las Vegas and will be increasing its service from Calgary to the Nevada casino capital from one to two flights a day, starting September 8.
