AirTran Airways Plans Columbus, Harrisburg Service
So much for the myth that nobody's expanding domestic service anymore. Discount airline AirTran Airways says it plans to launch service to a pair of new destinations soon: Columbus, OH (CMH) and Harrisburg (HAR).
November 6 is the projected take-off time for nonstop service from Columbus to AirTran's primary hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). There will be a pair of daily nonstops. The move means there will be nonstop competition on the route for the first time in a long time. Delta Connection is currently the only player between CMH and ATL.
On the same day, the discount airline is due to begin once-daily Columbus - Fort Myers flights, rendering it the only carrier serving the city pair.
Look for lots of competition between Columbus and Orlando, and some good discount airfares to go along with it. That's because once AirTran enters that market there will be a trio of airlines making the trip: AirTran, discount airline Southwest, and Delta Connection.
November 20 is the projected start date for nonstop Harrisburg to Orlando service. Air Tran plans just once nonstop per day, and, unless somebody else steps in, it will be the only nonstop service between the two cities.
