American brings competition to Chicago - Montego Bay flights
By the beginning of next year there will be nonstop competition on the Chicago O'Hare (ORD) - Montego Bay (MBJ) route. Air Jamaica now plies the route. Soon, so will American Airlines - which possesses a formidable feeder hub at O'Hare.
American intends to begin nonstop ORD - MBJ service January 31, 2009. A Boeing 757 is slated to make the run five times per week. There will be roundtrip service every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
AA is putting on a full-court press at Montego Bay, and not just out of Chicago. November 2 American will boost the number of nonstops it offers to Miami (MIA) from the Jamaican City. There will be three, instead of two. On the same day, AA increases Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) - Montego Bay service. Where there was but a single flight per week, here will be five. By mid-December American intends to make DFW - MBJ a daily affair.
It will be instructive to see how Air Jamaica responds to American Airlines' new initiatives.
