Delta Air Lines to fly to Brazil from Atlanta
All of a sudden, air traffic to Brazil is ascendant - the result of a booming Brazilian economy and a new bilateral air treaty between the United States and the Latin American giant. Hard on the heels of announcements by American Airlines and TAM (Web site: www.tam.com.br) that they're expanding service to the country, Delta Air Lines says it plans to launch flights from Atlanta (ATL) to a trio of new Brazilian destinations. To get your attention, the carrier is offering discount airfares starting at $599, each-way - exclusive of taxes and fees.
On December 19 Delta is to begin flying Atlanta to Manaus (MAO) nonstop. Delta will employ a 737-700 on that route daily. The introductory discount airfare is $659, each-way. That price does not include taxes or fees, and you've got to make a round-trip purchase to get it. Make that purchase by September 8, and make sure you do it via the Web site (www.delta.com) to get the lowest rate. You'll be able to fly on this discount airfare January 6 to March 27, 2009.
Delta intends to loft a quartet of weekly flights out of Atlanta to both Recife (REC) and Fortaleza (FOR). The routing is Atlanta-Recife-Fortaleza. The introductory discount airfare is $599. The same terms apply to this rate as Atlanta to Manaus. Delta will fly a 757-200 to REC and FOR.
What attracts people to these cities, aside from business opportunities? Manaus is capital of the Amazon, a jumping-off point for folks who want to explore that legendary river. Recife sports some excellent resorts, and tropical beaches. It hosts one of Brazil's largest carnival festivals. Finally, Fortaleza lies on the northeastern shore of the country, and offers some 16 miles of urban beaches.
Both the ATL-MAO, and ATL-REC-FOR routes are subject to government approval.
