Eateries in baggage-claim area of airports

Airport operators are giving travelers a new array of meal options in baggage-claim areas.

The emerging trend, which has concessions and restaurants opening in arrivals and baggage-claim areas in addition to traditional locations past security and near departure gates, is meant to fill the need created by the dearth of in-flight meals on most airlines, The Vancouver Sun reports.

Pauline Armbrust, chief executive of Armbrust Aviation told the newspaper: "It's definitely something the industry is talking about right now."

Meanwhile, Traci Bednard, spokeswoman for Edmonton International, told the newspaper that the trend is about "helping passengers make the transition back to real life".

The airport is negotiating to bring vending machines to its customs area for passengers arriving from long-haul international flights.
