United Airlines to End Spokane-Chicago flights
United Airlines is terminating its services between Spokane and Chicago as of November 1, it has been confirmed.
Jeff Kovich, a spokesperson for the carrier, told The Seattle Times that United was ending the service as a result of high fuel prices and a weakening economy.
He added that the airlines will continue flights from Spokane to other destinations.
Meanwhile, Harry Sladich, President of the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the newspaper that United's decision was disappointing but understandable given the current economic environment.
"It's not the end of the world, but it's nice to say you've got direct service to Chicago," he said.
Todd Woodard, Spokane International Airport spokesman, added that Spokane customers will be able to connect to Chicago via Minneapolis, Denver and Salt Lake City.
