Dallas Morning News Says Congress Shelves Pax Bill of Rights

In an article, respected, long-time aviation writer Terry Maxon of The Dallas Morning News reports that language that would have protected passengers has been excised from legislation reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration.

The newspaper says Kate Hanni of the Coalition for an Airline Passengers’ Bill of Rights found out on Friday, September 19, about the move.

The Coalition wants a law mandating carriers to keep passengers better abreast of what’s happening, let them disembark from aircraft grounded for at least three hours, and better compensate them for damaged bags, among other things.

The Dallas Morning News says Hanni’s focus on passing a passenger bill of rights was sparked back on December 29, 2006, when she and other passengers were stranded on American Airlines’ flights at Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) during a storm.
