Northwest Airlines to Resume Tokyo-Taipei Flights
Northwest Airlines has resumed its daily services between Tokyo and Taipei, meaning passengers traveling on the carrier to Japan can now continue to Taiwan.
The airline terminated the route following the SARS outbreak in 2004, the China Post reports.
Raymond Chang, President of Northwest's Taiwan operations, told the newspaper that Asia-bound U.S. passengers can fly Tokyo and then carry on to other Asian cities via regional carriers.
On the return journey, U.S.-bound passengers from all Asian cities, including Taipei, can fly to Tokyo, from where they can be flown to many U.S. destinations.
This can happen at much lower cost than taking nonstop long-haul flights, he said.
"By doing this, passengers will spend probably one to two more hours traveling from Asia to America, but their tickets will be much cheaper," he added.
