US Airways to Tel Aviv – First Flight Set for July 2009
Live in or near Philadelphia and looking for a quicker way to Israel? Consider US Airways’ new nonstop service set to get off the ground on July 2, 2009. This will mark the only nonstop flights between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV).
Calling the new service an “historic decision,” Consul Rami Levi, director of the Western Region for the Israel Ministry of Tourism, says: “We…have been working to recruit US Airways since 2007.”
In 2007, the Ministry says more than 500,000 Americans visited Israel – a record. Despite the economic downturn, the Ministry of Tourism projects 2008 will set yet another benchmark for visitors.
US Airways will be able to aggregate flyers from throughout its far-flung domestic route structure over its Philadelphia gateway, put them on the Tel Aviv-bound A330 and get them there nonstop. Heretofore, Philadelphia area flyers have had to connect via New York Kennedy (JFK) or Newark (EWR) to get to Israel.
