American Airlines Considers A La Carte Pricing

American Airlines is considering an "a la carte" pricing structure which would see travelers paying for the services they choose.

The Associated Press reports that there are likely to be a few basic fare plans and passengers can then pick additional services for a fee.

Daniel Garton, American Airlines' Executive Vice-President of Marketing, told the news provider: "We as an industry have opted to not just raise [ticket] prices but to raise prices and change the fee structure.

"Without fees to offset rising costs, you're not going to be talking about fees - you're going to be talking about lost service."

The a la carte pricing structure was pioneered by Air Canada.
